For Starters…

As our first column for the On The Rag E-Zine, we were asked to just write about ourselves a bit, if we were comfortable with that. Which caught me at an interesting place. Most everything I write is in some way about myself, or my beliefs, or my politics, but I am usually discussing a certain topic other than “myself” while giving personal opinion or experience examples. Then the piece usually ends up helping me figure out something about myself, or my beliefs, or my politics… some sort of self discovery through personal critique of issues in modern society seems to be the way it goes. So, going about actually just writing about myself in a descriptive manner, feels strange, even though I technically write about myself all the time, just in round about manners.

Hi there; Thanks for looking into the 2012 launch of “On the Rag Zine”! March is the month of strong & beautiful Women that broke the traditions, rules, & stereotypes. What better month start, right? So this is the awkward stage where the Editor asks us contributors to write about ourselves. Eh…blah…blah! Name’s Rachel and I am a music-hol-ic! My therapy is music; I really like all types of music. Like Sacramento which is fundamentally a melting pot of people. I grew up listening to a mixture of sounds, instruments, lyrics, and instrument arrangement. Too me the different genres of music out there are different philosophies on our world of today, & yesterday’s past! Music makes me feel alive! I like to make things as well: art, fun, food, laughs, & jokes! Please visitwww.etsy.com/rachelradicalwww.pinkdeathzine.blogspot.com

Greetings!

My name is Jackie Joice. I’m a writer, spoken word poet, aspiring photographer and feminist. Those descriptions/labels are in no particular order.  My novel “Kanika’s Burdens” was just recently published. My photography from my visit to Juarez Mexico was just featured in the Baldlands literary journal (2012) based at Cal State San Bernardino (Palm Springs Campus). I was thrilled to be invited to write a column for On The Rag. Renae Bryant is one of my all time favorite feminist friends. I’ve written for a variety of alternative and feminist magazines, Loudmouth of Cal State Los Angeles, being one of my favorite. I also wrote for Blade Magazine based in Orange County and Long Beach. I enjoy taking photographs of all things nautical. Beaches, boats, rusty anchors, docks, marine life, waves, you name it.  One of my strenghts are encouraging people to find their passion or revive their passion. I love making people feel good about themselves.
