April 2011
The one of the many great things about being DIY is that you can do shit when you damn well please. As some of you know my step-father (since I was twelve...so basically the only father I had) battled illness for most of 2008-2010. He died August of 2010. During those years I needed to focus on family and made the label and zine a secondary consideration. I apologize to those of you who looked forward to releases coming out on time and our On the Rag Zine being a little more cared for. Like any other thing in your life...if you don't attend to it, it will wither away. I love the punk scene, this little label and zine too much to allow that to happen. In between teaching and my responsibilities for All or Nothing H.C., I plan on carving out some time for these little babbies of mine (label and zine). My first attempt at this is right this very second, updating this sad, dusty, old page with some NEWS!!!
ON THE RAG RECORDS' NEWS APRIL 2011:
Naked Aggression & All or Nothing HC Split CD/Vinyl
On the Rag Records is very proud to announce that the new split cd from Naked Aggression and All or Nothing HC, "Bring Me the Head of...," will be available in May 2011. The vinyl version will be available in June 2011 from Emancypunx. We have been friends and fans of Naked Aggression for a very long time, and it is something we probably should have thought of doing a long time ago. We are stoked to share space with them, and proud that they are once again willing to grace On the Rag Records with their presence. We wanted to be sure to that we "put some pussy" in the artwork too. We brought Amy Toxic in to do the artwork, which rules. The cd will have one version of the artwork, the vinyl will have another, and limited copies of the vinyl will have the same artwork as the cd. We, All or Nothing HC, also have a new poster and shirt design from our favorite tattoo artist of all time, Billy Barnett. We are planning some cd/vinyl release shows, so keep a look out for updates here, on Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, or you can even go to a record store and pick up a flyer (still one of my favorite rituals).
Solidarity Now/Put Some Pussy in Your Punk Vol. 3
Even though the way people buy music has changed since 1998, when I started the label, people still want to buy music at shows. People still want to play records. People still want to have the physical product. Some people have tried to talk me out of doing my compilation, telling me that it won't be "profitable." These are people that obviously don't understand that you don't put stuff out just for profit. I am always happy and hoping to just break even. I consider music a form of art. I want to support female artists. That has not changed. I am happy to put out comps and sell them for $5 each. With that said, I am still going to put out the third compilation of female fronted bands. I just may have to update it a tiny bit. I know that people can go online and discover all the bands they need to. I just love to put them all together for you. It's like my little mix tape of female fierceness just for you.
All or Nothing HC support Steve Ignorant Presents The Last Supper, CRASS songs from 1977-1984
On the Rag Records also wants to remind you that next Saturday, April 30th, All or Nothing HC is fortunate to be the direct support for Steve Ignorant Presents The Last Supper, CRASS songs from 1977-1984 at the Glasshouse in Pomona, CA. We here at OTR have been listening to CRASS for a few decades now. "Penis Envy" remains one of our favorite "female fronted" gal albums. We love that album., Steve Ignorant and we love CRASS. Tickets are still available through the Glasshouse and through Headline Records.

My third installation of Put Some Pussy in Your Punk has been delayed by my teaching and band schedule. Since we are not touring Europe right now, I wanted to use this time to finally put it together. During our last tour in Europe I was heavily influenced by my time spent with Tatiana, Timo, Jenni, Pavel, and Fyfan. We had many really good conversations about feminism, as well as many other topics. As a result of those conversations, I decided to focus the title of the comp. to "Solidarity Now," with a sub-title of Put Some Pussy in Your Punk #3.
I also decided that I should finally include some essays with the release, along with all band contact info. So...I am calling for short essays on the topics of feminism, human rights, LGBT rights, animal rights, international women's rights, birth control and any other topic that would be appropriate. I cannot offer financial compensation, but I will give each contributor four copies of the release. I am also open to other ideas that sound fair. My deadline has to be Nov. 21 (so I can finish it while I'm on vacation from teaching). I am open to reprinting essays you have had published before.
Please contact me asap so I can start mapping out the booklet. Thanks.

I am FINALLY getting the PSPIYP Vol. 3 compilation put together. I realize it's been in the "works" for quite some time. I thank all of you for your patience and solidarity. Since it has been such a wait, and many of you have new music, I wanted to give you the opportunity to send a new song (if you feel strongly about having something more current on the comp.). I must receive the new song by email or mail by July 7, 2008. Please send lyrics and photos to webmistress@ontherag.net. If you are sending hard copies, please send them to P.O. Box 251 Norco, CA 92860-0251.
I hope this works for you. If you have decided that you would rather not be included in the comp., just send me a message so I can pull your song, no hard feelings.
Spending the three weeks touring Europe really influenced me, especially the time spent with Jenni, Timo, and Tatiana (as well as all the conversations had with punk and feminists). I bought/traded for some great releases. I loved how some of the music was packaged, etc. I am hoping to find a way to put a booklet together with the cd and keep it as eco-friendly as possible. We'll see...
Don't forget to check out www.myspace.com/punkhardcoresisterhood started by Jenni (www.myspace.com/emancypunx ) and me. Through www.myspace.com/cherrybombbookings (UK), I found www.myspace.com/girlsownradio that I thought some of you might be interested in. I also wanted to promote The Vinyl Hours with DJ Tina Bold www.kucr.org KUCR 88.3 fm Thurs. 7-9 PM; www.myspace.com/tinabold and www.vinylhoursradio.com . You can see her "Top Ten IE Bands to Look Out For" at www.myspace.com/ieweekly.
Visit the on the rag store! You'll find the new all or nothing hc and Bruise Violet 7 inches as well many other gal fronted releases from around the world.

Jenni and I have started a myspace at
www.myspace.com/internationalpunkhardcoresisterhood . The purpose is to
connect feminists of all gender and sexual persuasions who are active in any
manner in the punk and hardcore scene. This includes: activists, artists,
musicians, writers, promoters, fans...basically anyone involved in a positive
way.
Please add the site and spread the word to other people you think would be
interested in using the site to connect with others or promote their events,
art, political actions, articles, zines, shows, etc.

Touring Germany, Poland, Denmark, and the
Czech Republic was a life enhancing, inspiring event. We came back completely
inspired by the European punk and activist scene, specifically the people we
met. It sounds cliche, but we all feel influenced by what we have seen, the
people we had conversations with, the venues we played, the places we visited,
and flats we slept in. This influence is already manifesting itself in my daily
life back in the U.S.
All or nothing hc thanks Timo (alerta-antifascista) and Jenni (Emancy Punx)
first and foremost for taking a chance on us and booking our first European
tour. Next we thank Tatiana for stepping in and driving us when Timo couldn't
(she took very good care of us). Just as important...our thanks go to all the
people who put on the shows, came to the shows, played with us, let us sleep on
their floors, cooked amazing vegan food for us, let us use their computers,
showed us around town, humored our ignorant questions, bought our merch, sat and
talked with us, etc. We made some friends that we truly hope last a life time.
Out now, available in the U.S. is "All of These are Days of the Dead" all or
nothing hc 7 inch, put out dually by on the rag records and emancypunx
records (Poland). It has six songs recorded by Paul Miner at For the
Record on both red and splatter black and red vinyl.

We just want to thank everyone who came out to the 2nd Annual Planned Parenthood Benefit Show. By supporting this show you helped to send teens to Sacramento to be able to advocate for themselves for Teen Lobby Day 2008. The show was a success, even though an ignorant group of anti-choice extremists protested and hurled insults at teens as they walked by, calling them “baby killers” etc. I want to commend all the teens at the show that ignored these people and did not engage them in the confrontation they so badly wanted.
Great thanks go out to Darren, Ms. Bean and Back to the Grind that consistently support benefit shows for excellent causes. Another round of thanks go out to Planned Parenthood, their security, Inland Empire Hardcore, Riverside Pride Youth Alliance, Center for Community Action and Environmental Justice and On the Rag Records that all supported this benefit show. Next, we must thank all the bands that donated their talent to this great cause: Ready Steady Go, Last Ditch Effort, Socialized Crucifixion, No Reform, Malice of Forethought and all or nothing hc. Finally, we can thank the Riverside Police Department for supporting the right to have a benefit show and the right of teens not to be tormented by protestors.
Please keep in mind that there is a faction of people in this country (not to mention our own city) who not only want to take away a woman’s right to choose, but on their agenda is taking away access to any birth control. All over this country more and more pharmacies are refusing to fill prescriptions for birth control for unwed women and teens, forcing women to have children they might not be ready economically ready to support or worse forcing them to make hard decisions they wouldn’t have to otherwise make. If you value the right to access birth control and to plan your parenthood then please actively support it. To find out more about this issue please visit: www.plannedparenthood.org , www.afj.org , www.naral.org , www.now.org , www.ppfa.org or www.feminist.org. You can also visit the Punk Planet website and find Daphne Adair’s well written article on this topic in issue #71. Books on the topic are: The Health of Women: A Global Perspective By Marge Koblinsky, When Abortion Was a Crime By Leslie Regan, and A Question of Choice by Serah Weddington.
PSPIYP #3 is still in the works. We are looking at a February 2008 release. Thanks for all the patience. It will be worth the wait.
September 11, 2007
First and foremost our thoughts go out to all the families who lost someone on 9/11 or who are suffering from diseases brought about as a result of being near the twin towers that day.
On the punk rock front we just wanted to encourage everyone to read our new interview with The Voids posted at www.ontherag.net/intervws.htm . We hope you enjoy it and learn something about the band you didn't know before.
August 28, 2007
PSPIYP Vol. 3 is still in the works. Don't despair! Unforeseen events have caused it to be delayed, but it is in the works! Thanks for everyone's patience. It will be worth the wait! The positive side of the wait was our ability to add a couple of bands that wanted to be involved, but couldn't contribute a song when the project originally started, like Barren (IL) and Combat Crisis (PA).
In other news, CLIT FEST 2008 will be held in Chicago this year. It looks like our dear friend and tour buddy Kisston (from ex-Help Me, Help Me, I Can't Breathe/now of Barren) will be one of the heroines making this happen in summer 2008. If anyone is interested in being a part of this show contact Kisston at barrenband3@yahoo.com or grrrlpatrol@aol.com . CLIT FEST is really a historic event bringing together female fronted (or all gal bands) with activist oriented empowering grassroots groups. The weekend is filled with entertainment and workshops to bring out the diy activist in everyone. With the 2008 elections looming close, it is the perfect time to stir some shit up musically and politically.

As I waited for a couple of bands to get their tracks to me, we are looking at a summer release for this compilation!
January 3, 2007
Happy New Year to everyone! Thanks for visiting on the rag in the new year. The holidays are great but hectic for everyone. We are finally getting some feedback for the "Don't F*ck with Her" four band split, and it's all very positive. People seem to "get it" and that's good. Our friends at www.reverendbookburn.com and www.myspace.com/babesinboyland put the split into rotation. Please support their shows.
I wanted to post an update for the Put Some Pussy in Your Punk Vol. 3 compilation. As of today, the bands involved are: Drama, Siren, Kung Fu Dykes, Menstrual Tramps, Kriminal Pogo, TV Trash Kill, The Secret Cervix, Happy Bastards, Gruk, Concrete Bombers, Lost Causes, Cuntastrophy, The Twats, The Adrenals, Machine's Agenda, Overated, Two Bit Terribles, Urbanos, The National Hot Rods, Six to Eight MathmaticS, the man o' malleys, Revenge Club, Socialized Crucifixion, My Doll, Revelevens, Bitchslap, all for nothing, Chapel of Thieves, all or nothing hc, Naked Aggression, Retching Red, and The Revelevens. I really wanted to make this a double cd, so if you know of any other gal fronted bands, send them my way quickly.
Gracias.-Renae Bryant

Wow! I cannot believe how fast this year has gone by so far. It's almost 2007. That is so hard to fathom. As miracles never do cease...the four band split, featuring all or nothing hc, gruk, Riot This and Bruise Violet is finally out! It is called "Don't F*ck with Her!!!" The cd features eighteen tracks of gal fronted hardcore punk from four diverse bands. I am very proud of the release. We were inspired by all the gals playing hardcore and punk everywhere, especially those who paved the way. This cd is dedicated to all the women who have been raped and killed, who will never have a chance to tell their stories. Specifically, we dedicate the cd to Kayla Lorraine Wood, a sixteen year old girl, who was raped, tortured, killed and set on fire in an abandoned house in Moreno Valley, California. Please visit the www.ieweekly.com archives to read Kayla's story, "Wish. Hope. Pray." Vol.1, Issue 28, Oct.18-25, 2006. If you or anyone you know is a victim of rape, abuse, or incest please call:
1-800-656-HOPE.
On a lighter note Bruise Violet just returned from their Northwest tour. You can read all about it in their tour blog at Bruise Violet . Both Gruk and Riot This are playing in their local towns so check their myspace sites to keep up with them. Speaking of all of these bands, I want to thank everyone who played the No On Prop. 85 Planned Parenthood benefit show we threw on Nov. 3, 2006. It was wonderful to see the support from the Derrin and Back to the Grind (that freely gave the space for the cause), Inland Empire Hardcore/Randall Lopez (for donating sound), Alisha Wilkins and the Planned Parenthood crew that passed out information, condoms and candy, all the bands that played for free (Socialized Crucifixion, Riot This, all or nothing hc, Gruk, Bruise Violet and No Reform), and most importantly all the punks/hardcore kids. This was seriously one of my favorite shows that we've played. It was amazing to see the diverse crowd support every band that played. Over $400 was brought in for Planned Parenthood. The money goes to fund all the free products and pamphlets they give out, as well as providing free services. I also want to thank the IE Weekly for running such a great article on the show and Prop. 85 right before the show.
Finally, I just wanted to give an update on the Put Some Pussy in Your Punk Vol. 3 release. Since I am currently promoting "Don't Fuck with Her," I will be releasing the Vol. 3 compilation in February 2007. This a perfect time, as March is Women's History Month. I could not think of a better time to do so. So far, the bands involved are: Secret Cervix, Happy Bastards, Gruk, Concrete Bombers, Lost Causes, Cuntastrophy, The Twats, The Adrenals, Machine's Agenda, Overated, Two Bit Terribles, Urbanos, The National Hot Rods, SixtoEight MathmaticS, the man o' malleys, Revenge Club, Socialized Crucifixion, My Doll, Revelevens, Bitchslap, Drama, all for nothing, Chapel of Thieves, all or nothing hc, Naked Aggression, and Retching Red. This is only 28 bands so far. I wanted to make Vol. 3 a double cd, so please tell all those gal fronted punk and hardcore bands to send me a song for inclusion. Some bands may be assuming that I am going to include them. If your in a band and you want to be included please send me one song before the end of 2006. Gracias.-Renae Bryant
July 3, 2006
all or nothing hc is currently featured as the “Band of the Week” in the June 29-July 5 issue of the IE weekly. Rich Kane wrote an insightful piece which you can read at www.ieweekly.com/music . Scroll down past the excellent article on the Skeletones to find our feature. I was also fortunate enough to be interviewed by Justin with Church of Girl. He asked some very thought provoking questions. You can read this exchange at www.churchofgirl.com/interviews .
We hope to see you at the Pomona Warped Tour date, on Friday July 7, 2006. We will be playing the “Gritty in Pink” stage, featuring all female fronted bands (Naked Aggression, Shiragirl, and more). You can find out more information about the stage at www.myspace.com/grittyinpinkstage , www.grittyinpinktour.com , or www.warpedtour.com . Try to get there early, as many of you know the stages don’t announce band set times until that morning. Last year I regretfully missed the Horrorpops by arriving to the Pomona date at 2pm instead of 12pm. Don’t make that mistake. Finally, thanks again to everyone who came out to the Cheap Sex, all or nothing hc show at the Allen Theatre last Saturday. It was a great first show for our new line-up. Thanks to all the punks who stood up front singing along ! See you in the dirt pit of Pomona next time! -Renae Bryant
June 27, 2006
We are happy to announce that we will be collecting the tracks from four bands from California for the four-way split. The four bands are: Bruise Violet (South Gate), Riot This (Norwalk), Gruk (Chico) and (by default) all or nothing hc (Corona). It started out as a split, but decided to share the wealth. The tracks are due the second week on July, so I'm really excited to hear everyone's songs.
For those bands still interested in participating in the "Put Some Pussy in Your Punk" Vol. 3 Compilation, please send your tracks as soon as possible (August/September). It will be a double cd jammed packed with gal fronted bands from all over the world. If you know any bands that fit the bill, send them our way. See the address below to mail us a track.
Please keep checking for updates, as well as checking the "Current Shows" page to find out when any of these bands will be playing.-Renae

Don't you just hate it when sites you really like take forever to update! Wow! I really hate that too! :) So...On the Rag Records is taking the big step to release a split cd of two talented all female hardcore/political/feminist/punk bands out of Los Angeles. I will be able to tell you more about the release next week, but I thought I'd tease you with that small bit of information right now.
I am also currently accepting/collecting tracks from female fronted bands for the next Put Some Pussy in Your Punk compilation. This one will be a double cd from female fronted bands worldwide. The first compilation was mainly California bands. The second was made up of bands from all over the U.S. (predominately bands we met while on tour). This third compilation is going to be insane. I'm so excited about collecting the tracks and making it, at least, a yearly tradition. Please send a cd to: P.O. Box 251 Norco, CA 92860-0251 United States. You can email me at webmistress@ontherag.net .
On Sunday March 5, 2006 The Smell (247 S. Main St. LA, CA 90012) will be hosting its International Women's Day Celebration from 3-9pm $5. There will be speakers, poets, workshops, vegan food, distros and bands. Scheduled to appear so far are: Jackie Joice, New Collapse, Riot This, Socialized Crucifixion, Medusa and more.
On the Rag and yours truly were featured in a new documentary by Veronica Garcia, called "all or nothing." If you would like to find out more about this you can email Veronica at: bruisevioletband@yahoo.com .

Welcome to the newly renovated On The Rag Records and 'Zine website! Within the next few weeks we plan on having the On The Rag 'Zine up and running again. This will feature interviews, reviews, and rants/raves on the current scene.
In the meantime, On The Rag is now a part of the MySpace community so if you have a minute please add us as your friend. Thanks...
